Pressure-free music instruction learning symbols, vocabulary of music-making, instrument-playing skills, music reading , composition skills
This is the first semester of a 2 year course. Please consider this when enrolling your child.
The first semester we will be concentrating on rhythm, and will be touching on the glockenspiel toward the end of the semester. In the second semester, we will begin learning about the glockenspiel, which is a barred instrument set up just like a piano so the children can learn how to play a barred instrument. In the third semester, we will continue to learn how to play the glockenspiel, read and compose music, and also build and learn notes and the basics of how to play a stringed instrument with a 2-string dulcimer. In the fourth and final semester, we build on what we have learned while also learning how to play notes on a wind instrument, the recorder.
Throughout the entire 2 years, the children will be learning about all aspects of music. They will learn about the orchestra, instruments, composers, operas and musicals, different dance styles, music from different cultures, play musical games, learn rhythm, learn notes and symbols, how to compose, how to play a barred, stringed, and wind instrument, and plenty of singing. This should help them decide what kind of instrument they would like to continue with.
This class is a wonderful base, and will help them segue into formal lessons of any kind. A lot of the success of the learning in this class will lean on how much they do at home in between classes. There is a little bit of homework each week, and some children do come to class and sometimes don't do anything at home. This is fine because we are pressure-free here, and understand that families are very busy during the week. But please keep in mind that they will comprehend more when the music is talked about and brought into the home in between classes.
